Last night at the tenth annual City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Lighting of the Christmas Tree, Mayor John Bowler and Kalgoorlie-Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chair Jessica Biddle announced an exciting joint initiative to encourage residents to shop local this Christmas.
The campaign, which has been designed to stimulate confidence and deliver actual dividends to the local business community, promotes that Kalgoorlie-Boulder businesses are “open for business”.
Mr Bowler said the campaign was about more than just shopping at local retailers, although that is important.
“This campaign is about supporting all local businesses – they are the people who live locally, work locally, employ local people and spend their money locally,” he said.
“We want to generate confidence and awareness in the wider community about the options and choices available locally, and make local businesses their first choice. So far we have more than forty local businesses already on board, committed to being open throughout the Christmas trading period and supporting other local businesses, both retailers and service providers.
“The City and the Chamber are taking an active and hands on approach, meeting one on one with each of the City’s traders and ensuring a cohesive and collaborative approach to extended trading.
“The campaign is getting rolled out across all our local media – radio, television and newspaper, and we expect to see a positive outcome from it.
