City engages YACWA to develop Youth Action Plan

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is excited to announce the Youth Affairs Council of WA (YACWA) will be assisting with the development of the 2025–2029 Youth Action Plan.

This collaboration will focus on gaining insights from young people across Kalgoorlie-Boulder, identifying their needs, and addressing service gaps to inform the City's strategic actions for youth services over the next five years.

As a key part of the consultation process, YACWA will recruit and train Youth Peer Researchers. With YACWA's support, these researchers will play a crucial role in designing and conducting surveys with young people aged 12-25 and engaging with parents, caregivers, and various community groups.

Youth Mayor Emilee Stewart said that as the peak non-government youth organisation in Western Australia, YACWA’s expertise would ensure the views of young people are heard and considered in the development of the Youth Action Plan.

“The Youth Council is eager to hear from young and work with YACWA to create an effective plan that truly reflects their needs and aspirations.”

“We will use this feedback when determining City programs and initiatives and how we can more effectively support young people and service providers across Kalgoorlie-Boulder.”

To kickstart the consultation process, YACWA will be recruiting young people aged 15-25 to become Youth Peer Researchers. These researchers will help develop a survey tailored for young people and gather feedback from their peers.

“I encourage anyone interested to contact YACWA to find out more. They will hire and train the Youth Peer Researchers, who will earn $600 for this work.”

“This is not only a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the development of the Youth Action Plan while gaining valuable work-ready skills,” said Youth Mayor Stewart.

For more information on what is involved in becoming a Youth Peer Researcher, prospective applicants can contact YACWA on (08) 9227 5440. Applications close Sunday 25 August.
