Johnston Street Intersections to Undergo Upgrades

The City will be conducting civil and road works along Johnston Street at the Maxwell and Kingsmill intersections from 23 October to 15 December.

The Johnston and Maxwell Street intersection will see the installation of a roundabout to improve the safety for drivers and pedestrians who use this high-traffic junction, as well improve traffic flow.

Further works including asphalting and kerbing will continue to the Johnston and Kingsmill intersections.

A temporary road closure will be in place during this time. Please follow the indicated traffic signage and directions from traffic controllers. Also allow additional time for travelling and seeking alternative routes.

Johnston Street and Maxwell Street Intersection

To assist with traffic flow, an intersection will be constructed with splitter islands to increase the safety and visibility of the new intersection conditions.

Pram ramps will be added to existing pedestrian crossings to improve accessibility for pedestrians.

Wide concrete and asphalt paths will be installed for pedestrian access also.

Johnston Street and Kingsmill Street Intersection

Redundant kerbing will be removed from the area, followed by the installation of new semi-mountable kerbing to separate opposing traffic.

Pedestrian access will be upgraded with new asphalt and brick paving also.

Residents of this area:

Please ensure cars are not parked on or near the road
Ensure water from your property is not running onto the road
Advise works crew if you require special access
Slow down to 40km/h for the safety of our roads crew
Follow any directions from our roads crew

Temporary Road Closure - Public Notice

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder hereby provides notice in accordance with Section 3.50 of The Local Government Act 1995 of the proposed temporary closure of the intersection of Johnston Street & Maxwell Street, and Johnston Street & Kingsmill Street, Kalgoorlie from 23 October – 15 December 2023.
