The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will celebrate one year of hosting In-Centre Meals for senior residents at a special lunch this Friday at the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre.
The In-Centre Meals initiative aims to bring fresh and affordable meals to the senior community and is an important outcome of the City’s Age Friendly Strategy.
Throughout the year, the City has hosted 101 meals sessions, and served a total of 1,668 soups, 2,793 mains, and 2,280 desserts.
Mayor Wilson said it’s fantastic to celebrate the success of this initiative which is well supported by seniors and a highlight on the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre’s weekly activities calendar.
“When developing the Age-Friendly Strategy, the City undertook extensive consultation with senior residents, caregivers and service providers, about current and future needs and how the City could enhance their quality of life.”
“We’ve worked closely with the Seniors Focus Group, from the initial launch, right throughout this past year to enhance the service and ensure our seniors are continuing to be heard – I’ve heard fish and chips, and chocolate desserts are a popular request.”
“It’s great to see the popularity of the In-Centre Meals initiative is still strong and continuing to grow, with the introduction of themed meals and dress-ups which seniors love.”
“The Christmas in July lunch saw over 96 seniors attend, which is a testament as to how this initiative is instrumental in providing social and inclusive opportunities for our senior community.”
“I encourage all seniors to come along this Friday to enjoy the fan favourite menu which includes a delicious roast.”
The In-Centre Meals’ one-year anniversary lunch event will be held this Friday, 1 March 2024, from 11:00am to 12:30pm at the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre.
Senior residents and caregivers who wish to attend are encouraged to book by calling the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre on 9021 9801.
In-Centre Meals are offered to Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents (65+ years) every Wednesday and Friday between 11:30am and 12:30pm. The three-course meal consists of a soup ($2), main meal ($10), and dessert ($2).
