Nominations open for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Walk of Fame

While the Walk of Fame Working Group will consider nominations from previous years, with another two received in recent months, new nominations for the community champions of Kalgoorlie-Boulder are always welcome.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder Mayor John Bowler says the Working Group aims to have two more people inducted into the Walk of Fame this year, joining the 30 plaques already on Hannan Street.

“We have 19 nominations - a lot of them very worthy - from previous years, and while we have received two new nominations this year we are always after more.”

“These are the people who have dedicated their lives to community service, many of them here in Kalgoorlie-Boulder while others have done well on the world stage.”

“In my term as Mayor we have made the honour of having a plaque in Hannan Street more inclusive rather than exclusive and the reason is many champions of the past were on a long waiting list,” said Mayor Bowler.

Residents, organisations, or families of those who have passed, have until 4pm Tuesday, 29 August to submit nominations.

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Walk of Fame is located on the southern side of Hannan Street, while the Goldfields Sporting Hall of Fame is on the northern side, starting in front of the Kalgoorlie Town Hall.

Mayor Bowler also reminded the community to start thinking about the annual Australia Day Awards - Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group or Event of the Year.

The annual awards and inductions into the Walk of Fame will be announced at the City’s Australia Day Awards at the annual Rotary Australia Day Breakfast.

Plaques are to be laid in Burt Street to recognise the annual Australia Day Award recipients - the volunteers who make our community a wonderful place to call home.

Nominations for the Walk of Fame can be made on the City’s website, with nominations for the Australia Day Awards to open soon.

2024 Walk of Fame

In 2011, a plaque was placed outside the Museum of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, honouring Patrick Hannan, the man whose discovery of gold in the area prompted Australia's most famous gold rush - right here in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Each year, more influential individuals join Patrick Hannan on the City's Walk of Fame, receiving recognition for the significant contribution they have made to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, as well as nationally or internationally.

Annually, the Walk of Fame Working Group will welcome at least one new inductee into the Walk of Fame, commemorated by the unveiling of their plaque.

The Walk of Fame is located on the southern side of Hannan Street.
