The City will commence repairs on three aircraft bays at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport this week, due to damage caused by wear and tear and recent rainfall.
The damage to one of the closed bays occurred during the Christmas period when no contractors were available locally to attend to the issue. Whilst the temporary closure of the three affected bays has caused some short delays in landing times, City Officers have been working closely with Menzies Aviation to manage flight schedules and minimise disruption until repair arrangements could be made.
The City is expediting repairs, with work anticipated to commence this week, following a site inspection today. Costs for the repairs are still being determined and will be managed as part of the current 2024/25 budget.
The City anticipates that one of the closed bays may reopen as early as next week, pending favourable weather conditions and no unexpected delays.
The City will continue to liaise with stakeholders, including airlines and aviation partners, to provide regular updates and minimise the impact on operations as much as possible.
