Today marks one year since the election of the current City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Council, under the leadership of Mayor Glenn Wilson. Over the past 12 months, Council has worked to strengthen relationships with stakeholders and build trust among residents, addressing key challenges and ensuring the community's voice is heard.
A central focus has been enhancing community engagement, which included hosting an inaugural community town hall earlier this year, as well as a range of online and in-person consultations. These efforts, along with direct interactions with residents, have improved transparency and provided valuable insights to shape key initiatives. Mayor Wilson highlighted how this collaborative approach to decision-making has strengthened stakeholder relationships and helped guide Council’s priorities.
“This past year, we’ve faced challenges head-on and launched initiatives designed to enhance the quality of life for our residents. I want to thank the community for their ongoing feedback, openness, and understanding as we lay the foundation for the long-term future of our city.”
"From major power outages to severe storms that impacted critical infrastructure, our community’s resilience shone through, and I’m proud of the City's rapid response, recovery efforts, and ability to work with all stakeholders during difficult circumstances."
He added, “We’ve increased our advocacy efforts this year, securing vital infrastructure, enhancing disaster response capabilities, and attracting investments to ensure the long-term sustainability of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.”
Council has been proactive in engaging with government representatives across all levels, sending delegations to Canberra, and raising key motions on pressing issues like homelessness and antisocial behaviour. Alongside the City’s Executive Leadership Team, Council has continued to advocate for critical projects such as housing and land availability, community safety, reliable power supply, and funding for essential infrastructure upgrades, including the airport, Goldfields Oasis, and water resources.
Significant progress has also been made in infrastructure, with essential footpath upgrades in the central business districts, completion of the Kal City Centre, and key improvements at the Goldfields Oasis, including the roof refurbishment.
The redevelopment of Kingsbury Park into a vibrant youth precinct has commenced, and the Karlkurla Nature Playground is now complete, alongside upgrades to various parks, sporting ovals, and reserves.
“We’ve listened to our residents and are ensuring our Road Renewal Program stays on track, with key projects like the Johnston/Maxwell intersection and shared-use paths completed to enhance accessibility throughout the city.”
The City has also strengthened its organisational governance with Council endorsing key plans, including the Community and Crime Prevention Plan, Public Health Plan, and Long-Term Financial Plan. Additionally, the development of an Investment Prospectus and Education Guides will help attract new residents and investors, positioning the City for future growth and opportunity.
"While we're proud of this year's achievements, we know there's much more to be done. We're committed to maintaining our momentum, driving forward-thinking projects, and ensuring that the City’s growth benefits everyone—from local businesses to families,” said Mayor Wilson.
“Our focus remains on building a better future for Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and we’re dedicated to making our city an even better place to live, visit, and invest. As a Council, we look forward to continuing this journey alongside City staff and residents.”
