Goldfields DAMA Website Launch

The Goldfields DAMA is one step closer to commencement as the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder launched the website which will help Goldfields businesses bring up to 500 overseas workers to the region over the next 12 months.

The website provides detailed information and step by step application forms to help businesses experiencing challenges in finding skilled workers to bring skilled overseas employees into Australia. Applications to the Goldfields DAMA will open on 1 July 2019.

City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker said the Goldfields DAMA, or Designated Area Migration Agreement, was a special immigration zone that had been put in place to help businesses operating in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Shires of Leonora, Menzies and Coolgardie fill hard to recruit roles including childcare workers, health professionals and hospitality workers, as well as skilled mining industry roles, with qualified overseas workers.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our region, and we could see as many 1500 new residents coming into the Goldfields as a result of the DAMA, as workers will bring their families over with them,” he said.

“This will have a great flow on effect for the region. We’re in an unusual situation where jobs and the economy are growing but the population is decreasing, and that’s because of FIFO. Part of the DAMA is a requirement for these skilled workers to live and work in the DAMA area.”

The Goldfields DAMA website is a one stop shop for all DAMA queries, and provides application forms, step by step guides, information for employers including the concessions available, and a full list of occupations included under the agreement.
