Mayor's Message: A community like no other

I’m often asked—both before and after being elected as Mayor - what I love most about Kalgoorlie-Boulder. My answer has always been the same - the people. There’s something special about our community that draws people in and keeps them coming back. We’ve all heard stories of those who leave, only to return years later or people who come with the plan to only stay a few years and then end up staying for decades raising families. I may be biased, but I genuinely believe our community is one of a kind, unmatched to anywhere else.

One of the contributors to this, I believe, is that we continuously demonstrate what it means to care for one another; from the incredible work of our not-for-profit organisations to the tireless efforts of our volunteers. This year alone, millions of dollars have been raised for our community through various charities and events; some of which the City has also sponsored or contributed to in some way.

Our community’s dedication extends beyond fundraising. Initiatives like Go Local First and Buy LoKal highlight our community’s commitment to supporting local businesses and strengthening our economy. We're also proud of our world-class, award-winning educational facilities that continue to expand. These valuable facilities strengthen our skilled, diverse, multi-cultural workforce from healthcare workers to tradies.

New projects and initiatives further demonstrate our determination to secure a strong future for generations to come. The $12.9 million redevelopment of the basketball stadium attracted funding from all levels of government and is progressing on schedule. The $6 million Kingsbury Park Youth Precinct redevelopment will be completed in the new year, and the roof refurbishment at the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Centre is now finished.

As we approach the festive season, whether you’re surrounded by family or far from loved ones, remember that in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, you’ll always find a family away from home. We are community that stands by each other.

Mayor Glenn Wilson
